They point the golf events in Europe, but whats the long term legacy for those courses that hold the Ryder Cup? Do they disappear from relevance soon after being center of the golfing world?
These are questions worth considering from the week that Le Golf National plays host to the Open for the first time since the beating victory over the United States of the continent just over a year ago.
1 thing is for certain, this functioning of this oldest national Open in continental Europe will not be as grand as the Opens that preceded the 2018 Ryder Cup.
The championship was shifted from a prime position in the schedule at the end of June and its now worth just #1.4m compared using the #5.6m handbag that was played last year.
Make no mistake, there will be significant golf on display. The scramble to keep cards qualify for the Race is intensifying.
Along with the likes of Thomas Bjorn, Jose Maria Olazabal, Martin Kaymer and Jamie Donaldson include some stardust.
However, when Alex Noren won 15 months past he beat a field that included defending champion Tommy Fleetwood giants Jon Rahm along with Sergio Garcia, US celebrity Justin Thomas and Ryder Cup stalwart Ian Poulter.
Bjorn contributes to the scene of the tumultuous victory of the team as one of the playing attractions as opposed to main strategist for an European victory.
That 171/2-101/2 triumph generated lifelong scenes and memories to inspire future generations. The class – set to suit the home team – and also also the prime place near Paris played roles in creating a iconic week for European golf.
But it feels as though many venues that staged home matches into obscurity may be followed by Le Golf National. Courses that were staples on the circuit have disappeared out of importance.
The Belfry hosted the Ryder Cup and whatever you consider this course, which will have its critics, the first layout in the midlands became a portion of the fabric of golfing history.
But a Tour event has not been staged by the Brabazon Course . Celtic Manor in Wales that was south disappeared four years after the Ryder Cup.
The K Club, which hosted the 2006 match was the European Open between 1995 and 2007s constant house. As the Open was maintained by it it then disappeared from the calendar other.
Gleneagles staged this years Solheim Cup and the 2018 Team Championships before placing about the 2014 Ryder Cup but its own deal expired.
Just Valderrama (1997 Ryder Cup) in southern Spain has remained a standard stop for the continents leading players in the aftermath of holding one of those biennial jousts between Europe and the United States.
Therefore the portents are not good at a time once the value of this French Open has diminished, especially for Le Golf National.
The French Federation signed a 12-year deal that could have obtained them to 2022.
This arose together with the loss of sponsor Alstom, however, a deal was gained by the European Union with Chinese conglomerate HNA. The agreement values 25m euros seemed to fasten the occasions top-level standing.
But that deal fell through leaving this tournament to justify a location in the tour Rolex Series. So it stays at this October date detached.
The change of date is okay, the biggest tournaments should have the very best dates, Pascal Grizot, president of Frances 2018 Ryder Cup committee, confessed to LEquipe last calendar year.
But the official questioned the European Union did not do more to encourage the championship. Why did not they choose to help the French Open and the federation as we were extremely loyal to the Ryder Cup? He asked.
The response comes down to money, like with other Ryder Cup places. There is money generated to place these areas after of staging golf event, the goal was fulfilled, but it vanishes.
It could prove a narrative for Le Golf National. According to the schedule of next year that the French Open will move back to high summer, however there isnt any word on which path will stage the tournament nor the magnitude of its handbag.
Places immediately resonate with golf lovers everywhere; Gleneagles, K Club, Celtic Manor, The Belfry and potentially Le Golf National are all not venues that have carved enormous places in the games folklore.
They give evidence that company reality leaves little room for preserving and nurturing that golfing history.
